One of the protagonists of UFC 263, which takes place this Saturday (12), in Glendale (USA), Deiveson Figueiredo exudes confidence for the new challenge. In conversation with the press, with the participation of SUPER FIGHTS, the flyweight champion (up to 56,7kg.) does not hide his desire to put on a new show with his rival, Brandon Moreno, in a historic revenge for the division. The combatants will be in the co-main clash of the event.

Promise of new show

When they faced each other for the first time, in December 2020, Figueiredo and Brandon left everything inside the octagon. In a fight marked by aggression for 25 minutes, the duel filled the eyes of many who were watching the title fight. About six months later, the 'God of War' promised a new breathtaking clash.

“(The draw) boosted (the division) a lot. It was a fight that was considered the best of the year, if I'm not mistaken. Now, we have the opportunity to once again show the world the power of this category. On Saturday, we will repeat this show and show the world the potential that the category has”, stated 'Daico'.

The weight cut

In February 2020, Deiveson ended up attracting attention after failing to make the weight cut in his first title fight in Ultimate. On that occasion, the Brazilian faced – and won – Joseph Benavidez, but, according to the rule, he could not take the title. Months later, the man from Pará faced the North American again and, this time, fulfilled his commitment to the scales and ran over his opponent, winning the gold. Now, asked about the process to reach the 56,7kg limit, the 'God of War' assured that he is following the plan and promises success in the measurements, which take place this Friday (11).

“The process has been incredible. Today, I weigh 60kg, very low (weight). When it's Friday, I want to be at weight. It's a slow process, but I trust my team and soon we'll reach weight,” she said.

Keep an eye on your next opponent

Even with a commitment for this weekend, Figueiredo is not disconnecting from other possible opponents to continue his hegemony in the flyweight division. Asked about a possible fight against the undefeated Askar askarov – current number three in the division -, 'Daico' admitted having already observed the fighter and spoke about a possible fight against the Russian promise.

“I’ve certainly studied (Askarov). He's definitely been studying me. He's a guy who follows me on social media, sees everything I post. He comes from wrestling, I come from Marajoara wrestling and, when we meet, I will make my game prevail, which is Marajoara wrestling and my jiu-jitsu. I'm a black belt in jiu-jitsu and I'm also a very brave striker for him”, he concluded.

History of fighters

A professional in MMA since 2012, Deiveson, 33 years old, is heading towards his 22nd appearance in the sport. With just one defeat in his career, the Brazilian will defend the UFC flyweight belt for the third time.
