With Usman on the radar, Covington ignores Chimaev's possible return and says he doesn't know Swede

North American criticizes the star status of promises that have not yet faced big names in their divisions

Despite being close to his rematch against Kamaru Usman for the Ultimate welterweight (up to 77kg) belt, Colby covington remains attentive to movements in the division. In an interview with the North American channel 'James Lynch', the North American revealed that he doesn't know Khamzat Shimaev.

“I never heard of him. Does this guy already have a win against guys in the (welterweight) rankings? Oh, he didn't win. Everyone is cheering on these 'kids' these days,” Covington said.

Furthermore, Colby disagrees with the 'star' treatment for fighters who have not yet proven themselves against big names in the organization. For the athlete, nowadays everything is about 'fame' and victories against big names in the division have taken a backseat.

“It’s all about exaggeration. There is no credibility. (UFC is) a great organization, but the way people talk about them (new fighters) is pure joke. Go out there and show (your quality) on your resume. Look at my resume. Several former UFC champions in it that I beat. When he decides to defeat the best fighters in the world, then come and try with me”, concluded the North American.

First in the welterweight rankings, Colby covington is close to being the title challenger and getting his rematch against Kamaru Usman. In his career, there are 16 triumphs and two setbacks – including victories against Rafael dos Anjos, Robbie Lawler e Tyron woodley, who have already worn the Ultimate 'belt'.
