After a great victory over Tony Ferguson No. UFC 262, Beneil Dariush believes he has won the right to challenge the new lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg.), Charles of the Bronx. Willing to exchange forces with the Brazilian, the athlete recalled last season, when he had a confirmed clash with the São Paulo native, which ended up being canceled when the Tupiniquim claimed personal problems. In an interview with 'MMA fighting', the combatant now 'attacks' the category leader.

“I think Charles owes me a fight. I agreed to face him at the last minute, after I fought Scott (Holtzman), when I was supposed to be on vacation. Sean (Shelby, responsible for 'marrying' fights in the UFC) called me the day after my fight and said: 'do you want to face Charles in five weeks?' I said yes,” said Beneil.

By closely following the success of Do Bronx in the UFC 262, when the Brazilian made history by running over Michael chandler and assume the lightweight throne, Dariush believes it is time to reschedule the clash. As a reward, the fighter would be scheduled for his first title fight in Ultimate.

“He said (when he left the fight in 2020) that he had problems with his family and left the fight. He challenged Tony (Ferguson) while avoiding me. He received the fight and then fought for the title. I'm not teasing. He did what he needed, won the title fight, and won the belt”, he concluded.

The triumph over Ferguson made Beneil take a significant step forward in the category, now led by Do Bronx. Coming from seven consecutive victories, the athlete currently occupies third place in the group.
