An important step has been taken so that the state of New York can host MMA events in the near future. The New York Senate approved, by 47 votes to 14, the local regulation of Mixed Martial Arts. The vote now goes to the state chamber of deputies, which previously vetoed the draft regulations.
MMA's incursion into New York is one of the biggest dreams of the UFC organization, which envisions holding an event in the largest city in the United States, possibly in the Madison Square Garden – complex that has been the scene of memorable boxing fights, such as the confrontation between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.
The UFC has been lobbying heavily in New York with athletes, former athletes, artists and referees for MMA to be accepted in the state. Recently, the president of Ultimate, Dana White, commented, at Twitter, the participation of the next challenger for the middleweight belt, and a native of the state of New York, Chris Weidman, in a commitment related to the agenda.
