The coach of Fabricio Werdum, Rafael Cordeiro showed confidence in his pupil's debut in the PFL (Professional Fighters League). The Brazilian coach spoke about his expectations for 'Vai Cavalo's first fight in the new organization and about the veteran's intentions for the heavyweight tournament (under 120,2kg). The statement was given in an interview with 'Combate'.

“I have very good expectations. Werdum has been training hard for a long time and we are expecting a great fight. Fabrício is very motivated and we know that when he is like that he usually goes after his opponent. With all due respect to Renan, who is a young man who is just arriving, Werdum wants to be champion of this event and is training very hard for that. This is what we are believing and working on. It's going to be a great fight, but Fabrício is capable of coming out victorious in this fight”, said Rafael Cordeiro.
After eight years of Ultimate, Fabricio Werdum chose not to renew his contract with the organization and signed with the PFL. Heavyweight champion between 2015 and 2016, the Brazilian said goodbye to the company chaired by Dana White with a positive result. In July 2020, 'Vai Cavalo' beat the Swedish Alexander Gustafson by completion.
In the 'new home', Werdum will compete in the heavyweight tournament of the 2021 season. In his debut, the Brazilian will face his compatriot Renan Problem in the main fight of PFL 3. The winner of the competition takes home the prize of US$1 million (around R$5,4 million at current prices) and the championship belt.
