Towards the end of his career, Sanchez gained fame in MMA after becoming the first winner of the reality show 'The Ultimate Fighter', in the middleweight division (up to 83,9kg), in 2005. Representing the UFC, Diego alternated between good and bad moments, experiencing his peak in the organization in 2009, when he competed for the lightweight title (up to 70,3kg.), losing to B.J. Penn.

Today, at 39 years old, the veteran is going through an unstable period. In the last 10 fights, he won five and was defeated in the rest. In his last performance, in September 2020, the athlete ended up beaten by Jake matthews. After the new setback, the North American confirmed that he would say goodbye to the sport in the next challenge.

Chosen for Sanchez's 'goodbye', Cerrone is also going through a complicated moment in his career. Former challenger for the lightweight belt, the 'Cowboy' has had a run of five fights without triumphs. Despite initially ruling out retirement, the 38-year-old fighter will be under pressure in the octagon, running the risk of being on the feared layoff list if he is defeated.
