“I am the most dominant champion in the UFC. Full stop. Next week, I want to see that list of the best pound for pound. I believe that, at the moment, I am the best”, said the fighter.
Today, the ranking of the best among men is led by Jon Jones, who abandoned the light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg.) and is preparing for his debut in the 120,2kg group. Usman comes right after, in second.
The brutal triumph over Jorge marked Usman's fourth title defense. Champion since 2019, the athlete has shown evolution with each performance. In addition to retaining the title, the Nigerian extended his undefeated streak to 14 positive results, in Ultimate alone.
At 33 years old, Usman now has 20 commitments as a professional in MMA. The fighter's last – and only – defeat came in 2013, when he was submitted by Jose Caceres. At the time, the athlete was playing for the CFA (Championship Fighting Alliance).
It is not yet known when the champion will return to the Octagon. UFC president Dana White, however, signaled that the Nigerian may see an old acquaintance soon. At the press conference, the 'big boss' admitted his interest in negotiating a rematch against Colby covington.
