A few days after officially announcing her departure from the UFC, the Brazilian Chris Cyborg signed with a new event and already has an opponent and a date set to debut in the new organization. The Brazilian agreed with Invicta FC, an exclusively female MMA event, and will have her first fight against her compatriot Ediane Gomes, on April 5th.
Cyborg's agreement with Invicta FC was confirmed by the athlete's agent, the former fighter Tito Ortiz, during a press conference held at her academy, the Punishment Training Center, in Huntington Beach, California (USA). In the new organization Chris Cyborg will fight in the featherweight category (up to 66 kg). This was one of their main differences with the UFC, which so far only has the women's bantamweight category (up to 61 kg).
Cyborg's opponent, Ediane Santos from São Paulo, known as 'Índia', is 32 years old and is from the American Top Team. In her 12 career fights, Ediane won ten, seven of them by submission, and lost only two. One of her losses was to the North American Ronda Rousey, current holder of the Ultimate women's bantamweight division belt. The Brazilian was submitted by Rousey just 25 seconds into the fight, in the King of the Cage: Turning PointIn 2011.
