“I was doing well getting back into training, so they (doctors in Las Vegas) told me I could start cardiovascular training. And I felt bad again. I went to the bathroom and started coughing up blood. It just messed with my mind a little. Honestly, it scared me and I started thinking I might have cancer. I've been sick for so long, why won't it go away? Countless different thoughts were running through my mind. Plus, I was alone there in Las Vegas, struggling to overcome everything,” he recalled. Khamzat Shimaev in an interview with 'RT Sports'.

The controversy involving the Swede began after the athlete was removed from the fight against Leon edwards for not having adequately recovered from Covid-19, contracted in December 2020. At the time, the athlete even announced his retirement from MMA due to being unable to train at a high level.

Now, however, Chimaev is already pointing out that he could return to the octagons in the first half of this year and took the opportunity to send a message to possible opponents in the division.

“Some people die from this disease, but not me. I'm still here, unfortunately for my opponents. If you are in shape, training all the time, why wait two, three, four months? When I'm in shape and without injuries, I can fight once a week”, concluded the Swede.

At 26 years old, Khamzat has a 'perfect record' since he debuted in MMA in 2018. With nine fights in professional MMA, the UFC's new favorite has never known what it's like to lose.
