The dominant victory of Derek Brunson about Kevin holland, UFC Las Vegas 22, surprised fans and even the organization. The company's president, Dana White, tried to justify the 'loudmouth's' poor performance as the result of a 'mental breakdown'. The veteran, however, countered the president and stated that his game strategy, based on the Olympic fight, was what made the difference in winning. The statement was given to the website 'Yahoo! Sports'.

“He (Kevin) just couldn’t stop the takedowns. He was funny. Holland is a very explosive guy, who likes to come at you, but he's long, so he kind of gets away with it sometimes. He still had his hips exposed, ready to be taken down. Dana White is one of those guys who might get upset with you. However, if I knock out a guy in the next fight, he will be happy again. Everything is fine,” Brunson said.

The middleweight (up to 83,9kg) stated that his fights will not always end quickly, but he recalled that, in his last fight, he knocked out his opponent. Derek also recalled that before facing Holland, he also came in as an underdog and beat one of the organization's promises.

“I fought against (Edmen) Shahbazyan, I finished the boy in the last fight and I didn't get the bonus. I knocked him out. Nobody was very happy about that. So, that's how things are. I came here to fight. Not every fight can be pretty, but I've been here a long time. This division was kind of built behind my back”, concluded the athlete.
