Brazilians were the big winners of UFC 156, but in the list of highest salaries on the show, foreigners came out on top. The Nevada Athletic Commission, the entity that sanctioned the event, disclosed the scholarships paid to the fighters and the North American Rashad evans got the highest salary. Even defeated by Rogério Minotouro, the former light heavyweight champion received US$300, around R$600. The second biggest purse went to the Dutchman alistair overeem, who after the hard knockout suffered against Antonio Pezão, pocketed more than US$285. His executioner ended up with US$70.
Only in third place on the salary list does a Brazilian appear. Protagonist of the main fight of the night, José Aldo had a salary of US$ 240 thousand, around R$ 480 thousand, to beat Frankie Edgar and defend the featherweight title.
The numbers released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the entity that sanctioned the event, do not include deductions for insurance, licensing or any other fees. It also does not include sponsorship earnings or bonuses such as Knockout or Submission of the Night. Any participation in pay-per-view revenue or “locker room bonuses” are also not included.
