'Heartbroken', Leon Edwards regrets unexpected outcome at UFC Las Vegas 21

Pivot who poked Belal Muhammad in the eye, Englishman apologizes for incident in the main fight, which ended without a winner

Pivot of the unexpected outcome in UFC Las Vegas 21, held this Saturday (13), in the United States, Leon edwards did not hide his disappointment after his fight against Belal Muhammad |. Protagonist of a finger in the eye that resulted in the ‘I didn't answer’ in the last fight of the night, the Englishman regretted what had happened. In a press conference after the show, the welterweight (under 77kg) spoke about the incident.

“I'm heartbroken. It's devastating. It was a long journey until I returned (to fighting). It is, to say the least, frustrating,” said the athlete.

Back in the Octagon after more than a year and a half of inactivity, Edwards analyzed the moment of the blow. At no point did the Englishman hide his disappointment at what had happened.

“I took a step to close the distance (at the time of the attack), then I saw him covering his eyes and turning around. I wish Belal a full recovery, obviously. It was an accident,” he concluded.

Willing to try to shock the world and make an important leap in the category, Muhammad accepted the challenge of facing Edwards at the last minute. Substitute for Khamzat Shimaev, the North American, however, was dominated in the first round until the tragic outcome, at the beginning of the second stage.

At the moment of the blow, Belal despaired in the octagon. Directing his speech to the referee, Herb Dean, the athlete stated that he could not see in his right eye. After a few minutes, the injury became evident and, therefore, the confrontation was ended.
