The three consecutive victories in Ultimate and the impressive knockout over Donald Cerrone in the first round on Saturday night (26) guaranteed the Anthony Pettis the status of the next challenger for the Ultimate lightweight belt. At least that's what the organization's president, Dana White, said after UFC on FOX 6.
When asked about a possible title fight by Anthony Pettis for the foreseeable future, White was objective. “”There’s no doubt about that,” he confirmed. The UFC president was still impressed with Pettis' performance. “Is there still anyone who is not convinced by him? I am now,” he added.
Despite the confirmation made this weekend, Pettis has already had three title fights promised by the UFC and not fulfilled by the organization. But if everything goes as planned, Anthony will face, in 2013, the winner of the clash between Ben henderson, current UFC lightweight champion, and Gilberto Melendez, last holder of the lightweight belt in the now defunct Strikeforce. This fight is scheduled to take place on April 20th at UFC on FOX 7.
