Bellator wins first legal battle against Eddie Alvares

Alvarez knocks out PitbullThe legal battle between Eddie Alvarez and Bellator had its first hearing on Friday night (25). And despite the allegations made by the fighter's lawyers, he left the court defeated. Judge Jose L. Linares, responsible for judging the case, stated that the evidence presented that Bellator would not have matched the contractual proposal made by the UFC was not clear.

The legal fight between the fighter and the event began after the contract between them ended. Alvarez's business team reached an agreement with Ultimate and the lightweight's debut was already scheduled for UFC 159. However, Bellator enforced a clause in the contract where he could match any offer made to the athlete and automatically renew the contract. .

The fighter's lawyers tried to convince the judge that despite equal pay, Alvarez would receive a higher amount of sponsorship and participation in UFC 159 Pay Per View sales, something that does not happen at Bellator. But the judge did not accept the considerations. However, he added that the fighter has one more chance to convince the jury that the contract offered by Bellator did not match the UFC's offer. The new hearing should take place in six months
