The Brazilian Glover Teixeira will have his biggest challenge in Ultimate next Saturday (26). Coming from two consecutive victories in the organization, the Brazilian athlete faces the former champion Quinton Rampage Jackson in the second most important fight of UFC on FOX 6.
The North American, who has complained on several occasions about athletes who take down their rivals to guarantee victories on points, praised Glover's aggressive style, but seems to have backtracked and is betting that the Brazilian will not accept a straight fight with him.
“I could be excited about the fight (in the striking), but my team warned me that Glover is really working on the idea of taking me down and holding me against the cage. He's going to pretend to stand up to take me down, which is okay, I'm not surprised,” he said. Rampage, in an interview with the North American website MMA Mania.
Even though he is known for his aggressiveness in stand-up fighting, Jackson promises to get up and return to striking every time Glover looks for a takedown.
“I think he's a very good ground fighter, so if he really wants to win this fight, why fight me at my strong point? That's probably what he's thinking. But he has something waiting for him, because I have been training to fight anywhere. If he takes me down, I'll get up immediately. I feel like he’s going to have a difficult task if he wants to take me down,” concluded the former UFC light heavyweight champion.
UFC on FOX 6 takes place this Saturday (26), in the city of Chicago and features as its main attraction the first defense of the flyweight belt, where the champion Demetrious Johnson puts his reign at stake against John Dodson.
