Tragedy: BRFC champion dies in accident in the interior of São Paulo

The holder of the Brazilian Fighting Championship (BRFC) light heavyweight belt, Valter Luiz da Silva, aged 36, passed away this Tuesday, after being involved in a car accident in the region of Barretos, in the interior of São Paulo. In addition to Valter, the vehicle's passenger, José Luiz Manteli, aged 40, also died at the scene.

According to the Highway Police, the vehicle driven by the fighter collided head-on with a pickup truck that was trying to overtake, at km 434 of Rodovia Brigadeiro Faria Lima (SP-326). The two occupants of the truck only had minor injuries and were taken to the hospital by SAMU teams.

Valter was the champion of the BRFC light heavyweight category (up to 93kg) and was undefeated for the organization, with three victories. In his professional career, there were 13 fights in total – with eight wins and five losses.

According to information from family members in the local press, Valter and José Luiz were returning from the wake of five friends, who died in an accident on the same highway where the crash that killed the fighter and the passenger in their vehicle took place.
