Ultimate's big bet, Khamzat Shimaev still lives with the consequences of Covid-19. Infected by the disease in December 2020, the fighter did not recover well from the disease and was transferred to the United States to complete treatment. The expectation is that the athlete will return to active duty in June.

In an interview with 'ESPN', the athlete's manager, Ali Abdelaziz, confirmed that Chimaev will be closely monitored by the UFC medical team so that he can return to his training routine. With the consequences of the disease, the Swede ended up being removed from the confrontation against Leon edwards, which was confirmed for March 13th.
Khamzat was diagnosed with Covid-19 in December 2020. At the time, the fighter's illness meant that the fight against Leon was postponed for the second time.
After yet another cancellation, Dana White and his team decided to move forward and not promote the clash between the Swede and the Englishman in the near future. The company is now looking for a new opponent for Edwards.
With just three fights for Ultimate, Chimaev emerged in the company and soon received the status of 'phenomenon'. The adjective was given by the company president himself, who, after the last presentation, revealed that he had never seen an athlete with such characteristics.
At 26 years old, Khamzat now has nine fights as a professional in MMA and has never tasted defeat. In the UFC, there are three triumphs with indisputable results; the last, a brutal knockout over the veteran Gerald meerschaert in just 17 seconds.
The UFC is flying Khamzat Shimaev (@KChimaev) into Las Vegas today, per his manager Ali Abdelaziz (@ AliAbdelaziz00). He'll receive medical care in the US for lingering effects of Covid. Abdelaziz said he hopes Khamzat can fight for June, but long-term health is top priority.
