At the weekend, Durinho will have, in addition to the opportunity to take away his former training partner's unbeaten record in Ultimate, the chance to dethrone the Nigerian. Finally, the athlete will be able to join Amanda nunes e Deiveson Figueiredo like Brazilian athletes who hold UFC belts.
In addition to Gilbert's role, Brazil will be represented by three more fighters, who will appear on the preliminary card. Promise in middle weight (up to 83,9kg.), Rudolph Vieira He will try to maintain his 100% in his career and in the company. Diego Lima wants to confirm his good phase, adding his fourth consecutive victory and Polyana viana They want to prove that they have overcome their bad phase after experiencing three negative results in a row.
To get in the mood, our team selected five reasons to follow 258. Check it out:
1) The first Brazilian at the top of the welterweight division
In addition to placing himself in history as one of the best in Ultimate, Durinho will have the opportunity to immortalize himself in Brazilian MMA. Against Usman, the Niteroi native will have the opportunity to break the welterweight curse. Athletes like Demian Maia, Thiago Pitbull e Rafael dos Anjos (interim) tried, but none managed to reach the absolute top of the category.
This weekend, Durinho will have a tough commitment ahead of him. To make his dream come true and place the yellow-green team at the top of the division, the Brazilian, however, will have to overcome an opponent who hasn't lost in 12 fights and is undefeated in Ultimate.
Gilbert, however, will try to focus on the good phase of his career, with great results in his recent record. In his last performance, the Niteroi native beat the former champion of the category, Tyron woodley.
2) Georges St-Pierre record
Considered by many to be the best fighter of all time, Georges St-Pierre could be close to having a record broken this weekend. This is because the champion, Usman, is tied with the Canadian in the number of consecutive victories in the group.
If Durinho beats on Saturday, the Nigerian will surpass the mark of 13 positive results in a row and will place himself in an even more prominent position. Today, Usman boasts the feat of never having been defeated with UFC gloves.
In a recent statement, Ultimate's president, Dana White, stated that, if the Nigerian beats the Brazilian, Kamaru can already be considered one of the best of all time.
3) Former teammates
In addition to the title fight, the meeting between Gilbert and Usman will go beyond the limits of the octagon. Residents in the United States for years, the protagonists of the show were training partners in some gyms in the past.
During the week of the show, both confirmed that they know each other well and the former fighter and now commentator, Daniel Cormier, dared to say that they both know the outcome of the dispute.
Recently, Durinho revealed that he had done more than 200 rounds of training with Usman. With a broad understanding of his opponent's actions and reactions, the Brazilian does not hide his confidence for the confrontation.
4) Rodolfo Vieira: promise in the middleweight division
Undefeated in MMA with seven fights played, Rodolfo wants to continue 100% in his career in the sport. Known as one of the best in the history of jiu-jitsu, the Brazilian has made good on his reputation as a finisher and has been collecting victims over the last few years.
This Saturday, Vieira will face anthony hernandez, in the clash that closes the preliminary card. As he tries to get closer to his third victory with the UFC gloves, Hernandez needs to win to avoid getting into trouble in the organization. Today, the athlete has two defeats in three commitments with the company.
If he overcomes Anthony, Vieira will take another step towards the elite of the category, which, today, is dominated by Israel adesanya.
5) More Brazil
Still on the preliminary card, in addition to Rodolfo, Brazil will have the presence of Dhiego Lima e Polyana viana.
After a difficult start in the company, Lima managed to show what he came for and achieved a sequence of three victories. The Goiano player, however, has not performed for over a year and will face the challenge of ending his good run Belal Muhammad |. The clash will be contested at welterweight.
Executioner of Amanda ribas in the times of Jungle Fight, Polyana viana will climb into the octagon under pressure for a good result. Even though I won emily whitmire in a dominant performance, in August 2020, the Brazilian needs to move away from the three consecutive defeats suffered between 2018 and 2019.
Pará will face Mallory Martin, who is looking for his second consecutive victory. The athlete will make her third fight with UFC gloves, having lost in her debut to Virna jandiroba.
