UFC negotiates fight between Donald Cerrone and Diego Sanchez for May, says website

Veterans have a confrontation underway and a duel could seal the athletes' retirement

Two great names in the history of Ultimate could be close to being placed face to face in the Octagon. company icons, Donald Cerrone e Diego Sanchez They are negotiating a duel between veterans in the May 8th show, which has not yet defined a location. Far from the best phase of his career, Cerrone stood out in the sport due to his aggressiveness and ambition to always fight. Holding the record for the most wins in Ultimate, 'Cowboy' is going through a difficult time, having not won in five fights.

Even with the recent negative record, the former challenger for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg) has already assured that he is not thinking about leaving the sport yet. After the draw in the confrontation against Niko Price, in September, Cerrone admitted the difficulty of performing at a high level, but revealed that he intends to continue fighting for a few more rounds.

Champion of the first season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) North American, in 2005, Diego Sanchez lives a similar situation to that of the possible rival. At 39 years old, and with more than 40 MMA appearances, the North American is experiencing a moment of inconsistency inside the octagon. With performances below expectations, the athlete has nine defeats in the last 16 clashes.

Unlike Cerrone, Sanchez admits that his next fight should represent the last challenge of his career. In 2020, the athlete even publicly challenged the Brazilian Demian Maia, however, there was no agreement between the parties.
