Diego Ferreira says he's excited for his rematch against Beneil Dariush: 'It's the fight I wanted'

Carlos Diego Ferreira haven't forgotten yet Beneil Dariush, his first career setback. After losing the first fight between the two, in October 2014, the Brazilian has the chance to get revenge in the rematch next Saturday (6), at UFC Las Vegas 18. Going through the best phase since he arrived in Ultimate, with six consecutive victories, the athlete spoke about the fight and is already thinking about who he can challenge, if he wins the fight.

“It's a fight I wanted, mainly to prove that I really deserve to be there (at the top of the division). It's a good challenge. We've fought before, but it's been a long time and now it's going to be a big fight. He comes with five victories, while I have six (…), I'm ready for anything. The strategy we are building is to be ready to fight, to stand, to box and mix it up”, said Diego Ferreira, in an interview with the website 'BJPenn.com'.

If he wins the fight, the Brazilian has two opponents in mind for the next step: Rafael dos Anjos e Paul felder. According to him, who could get closer to the Top-5 in the lightweight category (up to 70,3kg), the fights are the ones that make sense in the sequence. He still says he wants to face the North American Michael chandler in the future.

“It would be good to fight the Rafael dos Anjos ou Paul felder. Felder is coming off two defeats and I don't understand how he is ahead of me. It would be a good challenge for me. But I'm also keeping an eye on Michael chandler. This guy just arrived and jumped in front of everyone,” she concluded.

Currently, Diego Ferreira is 36 years old. The Brazilian has 19 appearances as a professional in MMA, with 17 triumphs and two setbacks. His last fight took place against Anthony Pettis, in January 2020. At the time, he submitted the North American in the second round.
