Outside of UFC 258, Chris Weidman narrates drama after contracting Covid-19: 'It was really bad'

After testing positive for coronavirus, former middleweight champion reveals details of the illness that took him out of the February 13th event

After testing positive for Covid-19 and being forced to leave the match against Uriah Hall No. UFC 258, which takes place on February 13, in Las Vegas (USA), Chris Weidman narrated the moments of tension with the disease. An elite MMA athlete, the former UFC middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg) spoke about the situation, but celebrated the fact that the fight had been rescheduled.

“The first few days were very difficult. For about three days I had a fever, body aches, head aches and it sucked. After that, I just felt tired. I had these headaches randomly. So, I had to take a break from training for about two weeks”, said the North American, in an interview with 'Submission Radio'.

After the initial scare, Weidman revealed that he has recovered from the disease. The athlete admitted that he is resuming training to regain lost form.

“Now, I feel good and I’m getting back into shape. I think taking two weeks off training, even coming back without any consequences, wasn't the best time to fight. So, I didn't expect the fight to be postponed until April. (…) Luckily, it’s a great pay-per-view and a great opportunity to show my skills and get a great result,” said the former champion.

Outside of the show that takes place next week, the confrontation against Hall ended up being transferred to the UFC 261, which takes place on April 24th, with no location yet defined. Executioners of Anderson Silva, the athletes seek to get closer to the middleweight elite and qualify for a title fight in the future.

At 36 years old, Weidman is going through a difficult phase within MMA. Even with a victory in his last appearance, in August 2020, the North American has five defeats in his last 10 engagements.
