“During her self-report, Pennington provided information that she was prescribed and took 7-keto-DHEA and AOD-9064 by a doctor to help treat a medical condition. After using the substances for a short period of time, she did some research, learned they were banned substances, and immediately reported their use to USADA. Pennington was eligible for a reduction in the period of ineligibility based on his direct statement prior to sample collection and his full and complete cooperation.

Upon learning that the products were prohibited, Rachel Pennington – who justified the use of the medications due to a health problem – informed the companies about the substances before the exams and had the suspension reduced to six months, starting on November 17, 2020, when his sample was collected. In a post on social media, she explained the case.

“I went to a doctor because of a health problem and he prescribed me some medicine. Unfortunately, I used it for a period of time until I discovered that I should have known about its content on the anti-doping program list and that it could be medicines with prohibited substances. So I immediately stopped using it and contacted the UFC. No one forced me to do anything and no one knew about this except me and my doctor and there was no USADA sample collection during this period. I did it because I realized I was going to make a mistake and I did the right thing. I hope I can serve as a role model to show that we all make mistakes, but it’s what you do after realizing those mistakes that defines your true character,” said Pennington.
