Defeated by Dustin poirier in the main fight of UFC 257, Conor McGregor remains one of the most talked about topics in the MMA universe. The hard setback suffered by the Irishman caught the attention of the legendary Georges St-Pierre, who said he was surprised by the result of last weekend's event. The Canadian, however, used a personal example in an attempt to support the 'Notorious' so that the star is 'reborn' in the sport.

“I think he needs to be reborn. He needs to change some things in his training and in life, which he believes were the causes of his failure. It doesn't matter if it's true or not, as long as he believes it. In my case, when I lost to Matt Serra (in 2007), I trained myself to believe that I lost to him because I underestimated him. Maybe I wasn't scared enough, maybe I hadn't trained enough, and that's what I forced myself to believe. Maybe it's not true, but the important part is for him to believe so that he can then build his confidence from there”, said the combatant, in an interview with podcast 'Belive You Me'.

A huge favorite at the bookmakers, McGregor ended up surprising many spectators by suffering the first knockout in his career as a professional in mixed martial arts. Knowing the sport, Georges did not deny his indignation with the result, which ended up removing the Irishman from the top 5 in the lightweight category (under 70,3kg).

“I thought Conor was going to win, but I was wrong. I was very surprised. I think one of his greatest qualities is that he intimidates his opponents with his pressure, with his presence. All the information he gives to his opponents' brains, all that talk, a lot of his opponents give up under pressure, but Poirier stayed alert, and it was a real testament to how good he is. Now, it's going to be really interesting to see how Conor recovers from this. I believe he can come back after this defeat,” he concluded.

Professional in MMA since 2008, Conor has become a true phenomenon in the sport. With a great ability to promote his confrontations and differentiated technical quality, the fighter became the highest paid athlete in the history of the sport, achieving figures that are difficult to beat.

With the setback for Dustin, McGregor temporarily moves away from his dream of regaining the division title. The athlete, however, was open to a rematch against Dustin, whom he had beaten in 2014.
