Current number three in lightweight (up to 70,3kg.), Charles of the Bronx welcomed the overwhelming victory of Dustin poirier about Conor McGregor in the main fight of UFC 257. One of the main interested parties in the meeting between the North American and the Irishman, the Brazilian praised the 'Diamante's' performance and, incisively, challenged the athlete to compete for the group's belt.

“Great fight. Congratulations, Poirier. I believe we already have the fight for the 70,3kg belt. See you soon,” wrote Charles, in his account on Instagram.
Considered the great Brazilian promise for the category led by Khabib Nurmagomedov, From the Bronx is experiencing a magical moment in his career. There are eight consecutive victories and an impeccable performance against the feared Tony Ferguson in his last appointment, in December, for UFC 256.
Charles, however, has reason to worry. At the press conference after last weekend's show, Ultimate's president, Dana White, stated that he is considering promoting a meeting between Poirier and newcomer, Michael Chandler, who debuted in the organization with a great victory against Dan Hooker.
A few weeks ago, the Brazilian received a bucket of cold water with another statement from White. At the time, the The agent admitted his interest in holding a clash between the São Paulo native and the former interim champion of the category, Justin Gaethje.
It is not yet known for sure what will happen with the division belt. The group's title today belongs to Khabib Nurmagomedov, who retired in October, but didn't even have his belt taken away. Dana and his team continue to hope to convince the Russian to rethink his decision and defend his position once again.
