Vitor belfort returns to the middleweight division (up to 84 kg.) to face Michael Bisping in the main fight of UFC Sao Paulo, an event that takes place next Saturday (19), at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium. After fighting for the category belt in 2011, the Brazilian sees his rival close to the chance to challenge Anderson Silva. However, Belfort has reservations about choosing “Spider’s” next opponent.
According to Vitor, the choices of UFC belt challengers are not based on merits achieved inside the octagon, but for “political” reasons.
“I can't say much about what I believe here in the UFC. It's not so much about accreditation, but about politics. I can't answer that. The one who can is President Dana White. I just do my job, which is to fight and win. My right is to train and represent my country”, said Belfort, in an interview with the newspaper “O Dia”.
Despite the criticism, Belfort competed for UFC titles on two recent occasions. At UFC 126 in February 2011, he was knocked out by Anderson Silva in a fight valid for the middleweight belt. At UFC 152, in September last year, he moved up the light heavyweight division and was submitted by Jon Jones.
