Fight between champions Henderson and Melendez should take place at UFC on FOX 7

Ben-Henderson-X-GIlbert-MelendezStrikeforce ended its operations last Saturday (12), but one of the champions of the now defunct event may now have the chance to fight for the UFC belt. Lightweight Gilbert Melendez will be the next challenger for the Ben henderson and, according to information from the North American website MMA Fighting, the duel already has a date to take place. According to the publication, the fight will be the main attraction of UFC on FOX 7, scheduled for April 20, in San Jose, California.

Henderson, who this weekend renewed his contract with Ultimate for another eight fights, has been lightweight champion since February 2012. On that occasion, he took the title from Frankie Edgar and defended his reign on two occasions in the last year. He has an MMA record of 18 wins and two losses.

In turn, Melendez, who has a professional record of 21 wins and two losses, has reigned in Strikeforce since 2009, with the lightweight title. During his career in the organization he defeated renowned MMA names such as:  Clay guida, Shinya Aoki, Tatsuya Kawajiri and Josh thomson.
