Warlley Alves looks good and runs over Mounir Lazzez at UFC Ilha da Luta 8

Brazilian recovers from defeat to Randy Brown and achieves an overwhelming knockout in the co-main fight

Relentless. Last Brazilian to enter the octagon in UFC Fight Island 8, held this Wednesday (20), Warlley alves had a gala performance in the co-main clash. In the duel against Mounir Lazzez, the Minas Gerais native gave his rival no chance and won with a devastating knockout in the first round. Viviane Araujo he also did well at the event; Vinícius Mamute and Douglas D' Silva lost in their commitments.

Representative of the welterweight division (up to 77kg.), Alves climbed into the octagon to try to recover from the defeat he suffered against Randy Bronw, in November 2019. With the triumph, the TUF (The Ultimate Fighter) Brazil 3 champion takes a step towards reach the elite of the category led by Kamaru Usman.

Considered a promise for the division, Lazzez suffered the first knockout of his career. Before the clash against Warlley, the Tunisian had only one setback, when he was still playing for Brave.

The fight

The confrontation began with Warlley attacking his rival in the opening seconds. After a sequence of blows, the Brazilian began to press Lazzez against the bars and started attacking with elbows and knees. Mounir managed to free himself, but was almost surprised by a round punch from Alves. Afterwards, the miner managed a nice fall. The Tunisian managed to explode and get up, but the Tupiniquim continued to put pressure on his opponent. Warlley moved away and connected with a sequence of three kicks to his rival's waistline. Lazzez felt it and collapsed. Taking advantage of the good moment, Alves continued attacking Mounir until the referee interrupted the confrontation.

One of the four Brazilians on the main card, Vinícius Mamute may have said goodbye to the UFC this Wednesday. Representative of the light heavyweight category (up to 93kg), the athlete from the Federal District did poorly and ended up being knocked out by Ike Villanueva. The result marked the fourth negative result in a row for Mamute.

Vinícius arrived at 'Ilha da Luta' pressured for a positive result. Revealed by 'Dana White's Contender Series', the fighter had not won any fight in three appearances for the company. With the new setback, Mamute must join the company's dreaded 'barge' of layoffs.

Villanueva, who was also 'hanging', is breathing in Ultimate. The North American had two negative results in a row.

Viviane Araújo dominates Modafferi and advances in the division

Candidate for a future title fight in the strawweight division (up to 56,7kg.), Viviane Araujo took another step towards a fight for the division title. In the confrontation against Roxanne Modafferi, the Brazilian did not give the American a chance and won the confrontation with a unanimous decision by the judges.

With a dominant performance for 15 minutes, Tupiniquim reached the second positive result in a row. In her last commitment, held in September, the athlete from the Federal District had surpassed Mountain Rose, also in an imposing way. Current number nine in the ranking led by Valentina Shevchenko, Viviane must gain a position in the group.

The setback prevented Modafferi from confirming his good form. The 38-year-old veteran continues to have an irregular trajectory within Ultimate, with six victories in her last 10 engagements.

Couldn't Douglas D'Silva. The first Brazilian to step into the octagon on the main card, the man from Pará didn't have an easy time against Lerone murphy and ended up not achieving the second consecutive victory. After three rounds, the Englishman was declared the winner with a unanimous decision by the judges.

Silva arrived at the appointment to try to confirm the good phase of his career. In his last challenge, the Brazilian had overcome Renan Barao No. UFC Sao Paulo, in November 2019. Now, Douglas has three defeats in the last five fights for Ultimate and has the warning signal on.

The triumph over the Pará native further established Murphy as a promise for the featherweight division (up to 65,7kg). With the result, the Englishman remains undefeated in his career with 10 wins and one draw.

Omari Akhmedov submits Tom Breese on main card

In the fight that opened the preliminary card, a submission. In the clash held at middleweight (up to 83,9kg), Omari Akhmedov returned to the path of victories and overcame Tom Breese with a katagatame in the second round.

With the result, Akhmedov recovered from the defeat in his last performance, when he was beaten by the former category champion, Chris Weidman. Now, the athlete has 21 victories in 27 commitments as a professional in MMA.

Breese, who was coming off a victory in October last year, suffered his third career setback. The athlete's last defeat had taken place in February 2020.
