After having the main fight of the UFC Las Vegas 17 temporarily cancelled, Ultimate is close to having a confrontation between Leon edwards e Khamzat Shimaev rescheduled. According to the company's president, Dana White, the company is negotiating to select athletes for the event on January 20, which should take place on 'Ilha da Luta', in Abu Dhabi. The information was released to the Canadian network, TSN.

The Englishman and the Swede would be in the main fight of the event that ends the Ultimate season in 2020. The confrontation, however, ended up being suspended after Leon tested positive for Covid-19 and was forced to leave the show.
The fight between Edwards and Chimaev was expected by a portion of the fans – and also by the UFC management – as it will put the organization's new sensation to the test against one of the main names in the welterweight division (under 77kg). The Swede debuted with the company in July and, in less than six months of contract, had three fights, winning them all in a brutal and undisputed way.
On the 19th, Chimaev would make his fourth performance. Against the current number three in the ranking led by Kamaru Usman, the Swede would try to prove that he is more than a promise, but that he is capable of overcoming an opponent who, for years, has been successful within the group.
While Khamzat wants to remain active within the company, Edwards is looking to promote his return to the Octagon after more than a year away from fighting. The Englishman has not played since the victory over Rafael dos Anjos, in July 2019 and the time away from fighting almost cost the fighter his position in the rankings.
