Borrachinha reveals he could face Whittaker for the interim middleweight belt

Last challenger for the middleweight belt (up to 83,9kg.), Paulo borrachinha is close to having his new fight confirmed. According to the Minas Gerais native, his team and the UFC are in advanced negotiations for a confrontation against the former champion of the category, Robert whittaker. The Brazilian confirmed the information on his channel on 'YouTube' and revealed the possibility of creating the interim title.

“I could fight at any time, starting in December. Depends against who. I want to fight Whittaker, and that fight is very close to happening, very close. (…) It is very well underway. It will happen”, said the Brazilian.

Confirming his position, Paulo also revealed that he spoke with the company's president, Dana White, about the possibility of exchanging forces against the Australian. According to the miner, the 'boss' approves the idea.

“I already spoke to Dana, who said he would love to see this fight. (…) In the next few days, we will schedule this fight. Adesanya will fight the light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg), the Jan Blachowicz. The title will remain vacant, they will put in an interim position”, said the athlete.

In his tireless quest to regain his winning path and regain his status as a challenger for the linear belt, Borrachinha explained why he wanted Robert as his next opponent.

“My goal is not who lost, it’s Whittaker. It's basic, it's simple. It's a competition, a championship, number one against two. I agree, I even think that if Adesanya wasn't going to move up a category, I even agree that he (Whittaker) would deserve the chance to fight (for the title). Then, yes, I could do a qualifier. But, as Adesanya will move up a category, he would have to do an interim job. ‘Borrachinha x Whittaker,” he concluded.

Paulo's speech is at odds with the desire of the group's former leader. Recently, the Australian rejected the confrontation against Minas Gerais.

Whittaker performed recently and confirmed his good form. Division champion between 2017 and 2019, in his last commitment, the Australian dominated Jared Cannonier and consolidated itself in first position in the ranking.

Recently, Dana White confirmed that Adesanya, in fact, should move up to light heavyweight for a superfight against Jan Blachowicz for the linear belt of the category.
