Alexander Volkanovski sets date to face Brian Ortega for featherweight belt

“February looks good,” wrote Alexander on his Instagram account.

After easily overcoming one of the favorites for a title fight, Ortega secured his ticket to a new fight for the category title. Last weekend, the American returned to the octagon after more than a year away and surprised spectators with an impeccable performance.

During the confrontation, which represented the main fight on last Saturday's card (17), Volkanovski remained tuned to the broadcast and even commented on the fighters' performance. At one point, the Australian showed satisfaction with his performance.

“We finally have some direction in the category. Get out there and conquer the number one spot. It was everything I wanted”, published Volkanovski during the confrontation between Brian and Jung.

Despite complying with professionalism and agreeing to a rematch against Holloway – from whom he took the belt in December –, Alex never hid his dissatisfaction with the organization for repeating the first clash, held in December last year. For the champion, it is necessary to give opportunities to rising athletes who have deserved a title fight.

Verbally confirmed as the next challenger for the belt, Ortega is going to his second fight for the most desired position in the category. In 2018, the North American ended up failing in the challenge, when he was completely dominated by the then champion, Max Holloway.
