It wasn't the Brazilians' night. In the main fight of UFC Fight Island 5, held this Saturday (10), in Abu Dhabi, Marlon moraes started well, but ended up surprised by Cory Sandhagen with a devastating knockout in the second round. Of five Brazilian representatives, only Edson Barboza left the octagon with victory. In addition to Marlon, Markus Maluko, Rodrigo'Zé Hiveto Bruno Bulldoguinho They left the show with setbacks.

The presentation in the United Arab Emirates was very important for Marlon, as a victory could put him back in the position of challenger for the bantamweight title (under 61,2kg). The Brazilian, who until then was in first place in the ranking, now had his dream postponed and must be overtaken by the North American in the group.
After the duel, Sandhagen was not left without an answer when asked about his plans for the next appointment. Immediately, the North American challenged the former category champion, TJ Dillashaw – who is serving a two-year suspension for doping and will be ready to return in January -, and the veteran Frankie Edgar, newcomer to the category.
Former challenger for the category title, Marlon has not lost since the fight for the belt, in June 2019. On that occasion, the Brazilian was beaten by Henry Cejudo.
The fight
The fight began with the athletes exchanging low kicks in the center of the octagon. Moraes risked a cross, but the blow went empty. Halfway through the round, Marlon managed to land a new direct shot, which exploded onto the North American's head. Sandhagen responded in kind and accepted the exchange with the Brazilian. After almost four minutes, the Friborg native hit his opponent with a clean right to the face. Cory, however, did not let the attacks go unanswered. In the final seconds, Sandhagen risked a shot from the waist line, but the attack was saved. Moraes managed to take down his rival then, but there was no more time.
In the second stage, the North American began the assault in danger. In the opening seconds, Cory connected with a high kick, which almost shook the Brazilian. Marlon tried to respond with a sequence of punches and kicks. After a combination of attacks, the Friborg native ended up being surprised by a spinning kick and went to the ground. The North American then went up and threw some blows until the referee stopped the fight.
