Despite not knowing Khamzat Chimaev, Colby Covington doesn't rule out facing him in the future

Since appearing in June 2020, Khamzat Shimaev, quickly became one of the favorite athletes of fans and Dana White, but not of athletes. Many criticize the treatment given to the Swede, refuse to confront him and few challenge him. Colby covington is among them.

To the North American website Submission Radio, the former interim welterweight champion (77,6kg) informed that, despite all the prominence the Swede has had, he doesn't know who he is, but he didn't refuse a fight in the future and even encouraged him to continue playing a role good role in the Octagon.

“I don't even know who Chimaev is. I remember someone saying that there was a kid who would fight in the same event as me and that he had a lot of hype. As far as I know, he hasn't faced good fighters and isn't even among the 50 best in the world. I haven’t seen his fights or the ones at the event, but if he gets some wins, gets into the rankings and becomes someone, he can see me,” said Covington.

With his confidence high after knocking out his last appearance, 'Chaos' stated that, as he is the best fighter in the world, he does not refuse challenges and promised to thwart the UFC's plans if they cast Chimaev as his opponent.

“I'm the best fighter in the world and I don't run away from anyone. My goal is to beat everyone who gets in my way. If the UFC wants to make fans believe the hype and sell this fighter as impressive, this campaign will be stopped in a second by me”, he concluded.

At 32, Colby covington recovered from his defeat to the welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, by knocking out his rival, Tyron woodley, in September 2020.

The undefeated Khamzat Shimaev had three fights in the year, knocked out Gerald meerschaert with one blow, in just 17 seconds and his next appearance will be the main fight at an event in the United States, but the opponent remains undefined.
