The promotion of the long-awaited confrontation between Khabib Nurmagomedov e Justin gaethje, which takes place on October 24, is in full swing. After confirming his presence on the card at the end of the year, the linear lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg) tried to send a message to the North American, who was recently praised by the organization's main commentator, Joe Rogan.

“Justin is a really cool guy and a good opponent for me, but when the octagon door closes, we will be ready for more than just a boxing fight. I'm not Dustin (Poirier) or Tony (Ferguson). I will take him to the deepest ocean and drown him”, wrote the Russian in response to a post made by Rogan, in which the commentator praises Gaethje's boxing training.

Even with the provocation, Nurmagomedov never hid his admiration for Justin, who has the same manager as the linear champion. The opposite is true for North Americans. After the victory over Donald Cerrone, in September last year, Gaethje, in a press conference, made a point of reinforcing his admiration for the Russian, claiming that he didn't know if he would have the ability to defeat Khabib in an eventual duel, but that he had the dream of trying.

In addition to the fight to unify the lightweight belt, the clash between the Russian and Justin will mark the first time that Khabib presents himself for a fight since the death of his father, Albulmanap Nurmagomedov, who died in early July after complications from Covid-19 .

Gaethje earned the position to face Khabib after shocking the world and beating the feared Tony Ferguson in the main fight of UFC 249, in May. On that occasion, the North American beat 'Bicho-Papão' by knockout in the fifth round.
