Khabib Nurmagomedov unifies lightweight belt against Justin Gaethje at UFC 255

Just two weeks after the death of his father and mentor, Khabib, lineal champion of the category, unifies the weight title against the interim champion, in October

The return Khabib Nurmagomedov to the octagon is defined. This Tuesday (28), Dana White, president of the UFC, announced that the Russian will unify the lightweight belt (up to 70.3 kg.) against the interim champion Justin gaethje. The fight will be the main fight of the UFC 255, on October 24th, with no defined location yet.

There was a lot of speculation that the lightweight champion could opt out of competitions in 2020 after the death of his father and mentor, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, victim of COVID-19. However, the death of Khabib's father delayed the fight by just a month, as the organization planned to unify the belt for the UFC 244, September 15th.

Last Monday (27), Khabib Nurmagomedov already had announced return to training, two weeks after his father's death. And, despite Dana White revealing that she would not put any pressure on her last in the Octagon, the fight for unification was announced this Tuesday.

Khabib nurmagomedov, 31 years old, has a perfect record of victories in 28 fights. In his last fight, the Russian defended his division belt by submitting Dustin poirier No. UFC 242, in September 2019.

In turn, Gaethje, who is also 31 years old, has a professional record of 22 wins and two losses. The North American, who comes from four consecutive victories, in his last appearance, defeated Tony Ferguson No. UFC 249, in May, and won the interim lightweight belt.
