It took more than three years of waiting, but finally, Brazil has a UFC champion. The Pará Deiveson Figueiredo ran over Joseph Benavidez, in an impetuous way, and submitted the North American in the first round after inflicting three knockdowns on his rival.
In the fight, the Brazilian did not feel the short period of adaptation in Abu Dhabi – suspected of having contracted Covid-19 – and it started with everything. He landed a sequence of blows, got the first knockdown and was close to finishing. Benavidez stood up. But he was caught with another right hand and locked in a rear naked choke. The North American preferred not to hit and ended up going out.
