Holder of the featherweight belt (up to 65,7kg) since December last year, when he defeated Max Holloway No. UFC 245, Alexander Volkanovsky has big ambitions for his future in Ultimate. Although he claims he is against athletes switching divisions for superfights, the Australian claims he has one fight in particular that he would like to take on.

“I don't like people chasing other categories, but (Khabib Nurmagomedov) is definitely an option. Right now, I have a belt to defend. I mean, at the beginning of next year, if something comes my way, like this fight, I'm going to have to accept it,” said Alexander in an interview with 'theScore'.
The suggestion of a confrontation against the Russian, who holds the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg), according to Volkanovski, is not a provocation, but rather a matter of proving himself in the sport. Showing respect to the 'Eagle', the Australian justified the plan.
“Khabib is one of the best of all time. I have a lot of respect for the guy. But I'm very difficult to hold down. I'm smart, I have gas and I'm a freak for being held down. I have a lot of respect for every UFC fighter, but each of us has to prove something. You know, eventually I’m going to want to prove myself at lightweight,” he concluded.
While he envisions a confrontation against Khabib, Volkanovski is scheduled to defend his first belt. The Australian will meet Holloway again in the rematch confirmed for July 11, on 'Ilha da Luta'.
Nurmagomedov, in turn, is negotiating his return to the octagon. In his next commitment, the Russian will face the current interim lightweight champion, Justin gaethje, for the unification of the title.
