The Brazilian Raphael Assunção lived a real nightmare UFC 250, held this Saturday (6), in Las Vegas (USA). In the confrontation against the former bantamweight champion (up to 61,2kg.), cody garbrandt, the Pernambuco native ended up suffering a brutal knockout in the second round of the night's co-main fight.

The confrontation between the roosters marked the duel between two athletes who needed to overcome the bad phase in the organization. Raphael was coming off two consecutive defeats, while Cody suffered three setbacks in a row.

Champion of the category between 2016 and 2017, the North American hadn't won since winning the title in 2016, when he put on a real show against Dominick Cruz.

Assunção, who was in fifth place in the category, must now leave his position and will need to win in his next event to dream of a title fight again.

The fight

The confrontation began with the North American taking the initiative with a low kick. Raphael tried to find the distance and moved in front of the former champion. The confrontation continued to be studied a lot by the athletes. Two minutes later, Assunção threw a round shot that stopped in Cody's guard. In the final minute, the fighters continued to save their blows and looked for the best moment for a fatal blow.

In the second round, the athletes started with open exchanges and the North American connected with a good high kick to Raphael's face, who didn't land the blow. After the actions, the athletes returned to studying each other in the center of the Octagon. Halfway through the round, Assunção connected with a straight shot to his opponent's face and began to find the distance. Near the final minute, Cody applied a series of crosses that were immediately responded to by the Pernambuco native. Garbrandt connected a cross on Assunção. The Brazilian went to the ground, but then got up. In the second final, the North American connected with a cross that landed cleanly on the Brazilian's face, which resulted in an immediate knockout.

In one of the most anticipated fights in the UFC 250, aljamain sterling surprised by 'erasing' the dangerous Cory Sandhagen. In a fight between two great bantamweight representatives, Sterling gave his rival no room to impose his strategy and submitted his opponent less than two minutes into the match.

The duel between Aljamain and Cory marked the battle between two great candidates for a title fight in the future. Now, Sterling awaits the confrontation between Petr yan e José Aldo, who will face each other for the vacant division title.

When he was defeated, Sandhagen had his streak of seven consecutive victories interrupted. Now, the North American has two setbacks in his record, in 14 appearances as a professional in MMA.

Sean O'Malley maintains unbeaten record in MMA with brutal knockout

One of the great promises for the rooster division, Sean O'Malley put on a show again. In the confrontation against the experienced Eddie Wineland, the North American showed that he is a name that can reach the top of the division soon. With less than two minutes, the fighter managed to deliver a brutal knockout to his rival in the first round.

With his usual confidence, this was Sean's fourth performance since debuting for Ultimate. The triumph confirmed the 12th victory for the athlete, who doesn't know what it's like to lose in his career.

The confrontation against O'Malley marked Eddie's 39th commitment in MMA. At 35 years old, the fighter now has 14 setbacks as a professional in the sport.
