Formiga entered the Octagon with the obligation to recover from the defeats he suffered against Joseph Benavidez e Brandon Moreno. The athlete, however, ended up suffering the third negative result in a row and moved away from his dream of competing for the flyweight title (up to 65,7kg).
After yet another setback, the native of Rio Grande do Norte found himself in a difficult situation within the organization. In addition to the recent bad record, Formiga should leave fourth place in the rankings and give the North American a fight.
After the big victory over the Brazilian, Perez asked for a chance to compete for the belt in the category, which remains without a champion.
The fight
The fight started with Alex risking a low kick. The Brazilian tried to find the distance and saved his strikes. The North American showed more aggression and forced Formiga to walk backwards. After a minute, Jussier blocked an opponent's shot and responded with a direct shot, which knocked Perez off balance. Near the end of the round, Alex connected with a low kick, which made Jussier fall. The North American allowed Formiga to get up and connected with two more kicks, which forced the Brazilian to give up the fight.
Cody Stamann defeats Brian Kelleher and wins again in the UFC
cody stmann won again in Ultimate. After drawing with song yadong, in December last year, the North American passed his compatriot, brian kelleher in the unanimous decision of the judges.
Number 12 in the bantamweight rankings (up to 61,2kg), Stamann needed to win to resume his trajectory towards the top of the category. The fighter then acted safely and dominated his rival for three rounds. This was the 19th triumph in Cody's MMA career.
After the triumph, Stamann was quite emotional. The fighter lost his brother, Jacob Stamann, a few days ago.
The negative result suffered by Stamann interrupted a streak of two wins for Brian. The athlete had played less than a month ago, when he scored a hard knockout on Hunter Azure.
Ian Heinisch gives Gerald Meerschaert a tough knockout
Ian Heinisch won again for the UFC in style. In the penultimate fight on the preliminary card, the athlete took no notice of Gerald Meerchaert and delivered a hard knockout to his rival in less than two minutes in the first round.
Heinisch hadn't won for the organization in two fights. The North American's last triumph was over Brazilian Antônio 'Shoe Face', in May last year. Now, the fighter, who occupies 13th position in the middleweight rankings (up to 83,9kg) will resume his trajectory towards the top of the category.
In his 11th UFC fight, the experienced Meerschaert failed to score his second consecutive victory. The setback for Ian marked the 13th defeat of Gerald's career.
Chase Hooper loses career unbeaten record in loss to Alex Caceres
The promising Chase Hooper ended up not having the same performance as his UFC debut. Against Alex Caceres, the young featherweight (up to 65,7kg.) showed a lot of heart, but ended up dominated by his rival for three rounds and losing a unanimous decision from the judges.
At just 20 years old, Hooper debuted with the company in December last year, at UFC 245. On that occasion, Chase surprised by knocking out Daniel Teymur in the first round. The setback for Alex marked the first negative result in the American's career.
In the confrontation that confirmed Caceres' second consecutive defeat, the athlete acted confidently and showed greater impressiveness in the stand-up fight. With good jabs and straight shots, the American scored points during every round and secured the 16th victory in his career.
