Trilogy between Shogun and Minotouro is rescheduled for July 25th, on 'Ilha da Luta'

Brazilians were scheduled to face each other in May, but had the fight postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic

The trilogy between Mauritius Shogun e Rogério Minotouro There is now a new date and place to take place. The fight, which would initially take place in May, in Brazil, will now be held on July 25th on the now famous 'Ilha da Luta'. The information was released by UFC president, Dana White, in an interview with the podcast 'Steve O's Wild Ride'.

Close to the end of their careers, Shogun and Minotouro are responsible for having staged one of the best fights in the history of MMA, in June 2005. Still in PRIDE, the athletes, at their physical and technical peaks, exchanged forces for three rounds in the battle which declared Maurício the winner in the unanimous decision of the judges.

After migrating to Ultimate, the athletes re-edited the confrontation 10 years later, in 2015. At UFC 190, the Brazilians once again promoted an eventful confrontation and the script of the first meeting ended up being repeated. After three rounds, Shogun was once again declared the winner by the judges' decision.

In July, then, the combatants will hold the third – and probably the last – fight between them. The duel could even confirm Rogério's retirement, regardless of the result. The athlete has already publicly stated that he intends to hang up his gloves and understands that his compatriot is the ideal opponent for his final challenge.

At 38 years old, Shogun is heading towards his 39th fight as a professional in the sport. The Curitiba native, who drew with Paul Craig in his last fight (November 2019), he has 26 wins, 11 losses and one draw.

Minotouro, 44, will reach the mark of 33 appearances in the sport. The sporting icon won 23 victories and lost on nine occasions. In his recent retrospect, Rogério has three setbacks in his last five commitments.
