Amanda Nunes says she may have already contracted coronavirus: 'I think I passed it quickly'

Protagonist of UFC 250, this Saturday, 'Leoa' reveals that she had symptoms of the disease after a trip to Las Vegas; This week, the athlete will undergo tests to find out if she is at risk of being infected

protagonist of UFC 250, which takes place this Saturday (6), Amanda nunes revealed that there is a risk that she may have been affected by the new coronavirus. According to the UFC bantamweight (up to 61,2kg) and featherweight (up to 65,7kg) champion, she felt the symptoms after a trip to Las Vegas at the time the pandemic was declared. In an interview with 'Combate', the 'Leoa' explained the episode.

“I was in (Las) Vegas, at a convention. There were a lot of people from all over the world. I was exposed to a lot of people there and, when I got home, I got sick. I immediately got sick and had the same symptoms as corona (virus). Now, going to the UFC, I'm going to see if I really had it. Because I arrived from a trip and went straight to bed, with a fever, my body really (hurt), something I've never felt before. I've been sick before, and I've never felt like I did when I got home from Vegas after the convention.

The Brazilian stated that her fiancée, also a fighter, Nina ansaroff, went through the same symptoms. Nunes, however, stated that the tests carried out by Ultimate during the week of its events will reveal whether or not there was an infection.

“Nina caught it too and got sick. So, I believe I got through corona quickly, but I'll find out now if I've had it. So, I must be immunized, right, because when you get it, I think you become immunized, something like that from what I saw. Then I’ll really know if it was or not,” she said.

Since deciding to resume its calendar, the UFC has adopted strict policies to test athletes who are willing to perform during the coronavirus pandemic. The Brazilian will then go through specific procedures to see if she is fit to participate in this weekend's show.

This Saturday, Amanda will defend her featherweight belt for the first time. The athlete will exchange forces against the former Invicta FC champion, Felicia spencer.

PUBLICITY:

The confrontation between the athletes should have taken place on May 9, at UFC 249, but due to the global health crisis at the time, the Bahian woman preferred to postpone the fight until next month.
