Colby Covington leaves American Top Team and challenges former teammates: 'Let's settle it in the octagon'

End of the line. The marriage between Colby covington and the American Top Team (ATT), finally, came to an end. After the academy removed the fighter's name from the list of representatives, last Tuesday (26), the athlete confirmed that he is no longer part of the team's group of athletes. In an interview with 'The Score', 'Caos' spoke about the subject.

“I am a member of the company'Colby covington'. Time'Colby covington'. This is my team now”, said the 'loudmouth'.

Former interim champion and challenger for the welterweight title (up to 77kg.), Colby has been part of the team since the beginning of his MMA career. The relationship between both parties, however, began to shake after the controversial athlete began to provoke members of his own gym, causing moments of tension and discomfort within the company.

With Covington's actions on athletes like Jorge masvidal e Dustin poirier, the company's leader, Dan Lambert, even promoted a rule in which ATT competitors could not create controversies, or challenge each other, unless they were on the verge of a confrontation.

The rule was initially complied with, but it didn't take long for Colby to break his silence and start disrespecting his teammates again.

Although he is now looking for new air to breathe, the American claims that his role within the American Top Team has been fulfilled successfully. Representing the organization, the fighter managed, despite the controversies, to become famous in the world of MMA and is still among the elite of the welterweight division (up to 77kg).

“I fulfilled my role there. We went to the top together and won a world title. But I also did something for him (Lambert), like taking him to the White House. We had a great relationship and I’m glad I gave something back,” explained Colby.

Now, without ties to ATT, Covington can challenge his former teammates at will. Thinking this way, the combatant wasted no time and fired at his former partners.

"Jorge masvidal, Dustin poirier, do you have anything to complain about? Come to me. We're going to settle it in the octagon, but you don't want that. We trained together for nine years”, he concluded.
