The premiere of Edson Barboza in the featherweight division it didn't go the way the Brazilian expected. On the main card of UFC Overeem vs. Harris, the Friburgo native was defeated by the Hawaiian Dan ige in a controversial split decision by the judges (29-28, 28-29, 29-28). In the end, the Tupiniquim athlete was visibly disappointed with the score.

In the clash, Edson was better in the first round and managed to knock down the Hawaiian. The Brazilian's superiority continued in the next part, but Ige managed to balance the actions. In the third round, the Hawaiian suffered a disadvantage on his feet, however he managed to take down two minutes with two minutes left and remained on top until the end.
