Barão (photo) dominates Faber and wins the interim UFC belt

The Potiguar Renan Barao He is the fourth Brazilian UFC champion today. In the early hours of this Saturday (21), in the main fight of UFC 149, the Tupiniquim athlete defeated the North American Urijah faber in the unanimous decision of the judges and won the interim title of the organization's bantamweight division.

Another highlight of the show's fight program was the debut of Hector Lombard in the UFC. The Cuban fighter, considered one of the biggest threats to the Anderson Silva, debuted poorly in Ultimate. Lombard fought a tough fight against Tim Boetsch, but at the end of the 15 regulatory minutes he ended up defeated in a disputed split decision by the judges.

Renan controls the fight and beats Faber
During the UFC 149 promotion, Urijah faber criticized Renan's impressive 29-fight series, saying he would be capable of beating all of the Brazilian's opponents. But on Saturday night, the North American was unable to face the fighter from Rio Grande do Norte.

With greater reach, Barão controlled the distance and used high kicks to hit Urijah, who was unable to close the distance to release his boxing and try the takedown game.

History repeated itself in the next two rounds, with the American completely lost, unable to land a sequence of punches or put his takedown plan into action.

In the fourth round, with a disadvantage on the judges' scorecards, Faber was forced to loosen up his game more and evened out the fight. With greater movement in the partial, the North American landed some blows on the Brazilian, who even suffered a nose bleed.

The fifth round was control and countdown for Barão. While Urijah sought the fight, even without effectiveness, the Brazilian controlled the actions, more concerned about not suffering a hard blow.

Right after the gong sounded, Renan raised his arms and celebrated winning the interim belt. In the judges' decision, Renan Barao derrotou Urijah faber (50×45, 49×46, 49×46).

With the result, the Nova União athlete joins José Aldo at featherweight, Anderson Silva between middleweights and junior gypsy as heavyweight champion as the four Brazilian champions of the largest MMA organization in the world.

Lombard debuts in UFC with defeat
Hector Lombard He arrived in the UFC as Bellator middleweight champion and with an impressive 25-fight undefeated streak. But his debut in the organization didn't go the way the Cuban expected. Without movement, Hector was unable to impose his game, and even though he connected powerful counterattacks and avoided takedown attempts, he ended up being defeated by Tim Boetsch in a split decision by the judges (29×28, 28×29, 29×28).

Although the fight was quite cool and booed by the public present at the gym in Calgary, the result was highly contested by Lombard's team.

Busy preliminary card
If the fights on the main card didn't catch the public's attention, the preliminary fights were quite busy and worthy of praise from the fans who arrived early to watch UFC 149.

As a highlight, Ryan Jimmo almost broke an organization record. With just seven seconds, the Canadian fighter knocked out Anthony Perosh and equaled the record for the fastest knockout in UFC history.
