One of the most prominent champions in Ultimate, Henry Cejudo he was close to making his first title defense in the organization. On May 9, at UFC 250, the North American would face José Aldo, for the rooster belt (up to 61,2kg.). The event ended up being canceled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. “I want to thank my training partners and coaches for these last few weeks of preparation. The GOAT's attack (an acronym that, in English, means 'the best of all time') is officially postponed. The GOAT will perform another day,” Cejudo wrote.
At first, the main fight of the UFC 250 it would represent the meeting between the 'Triplo C' and the 'People's Champion' in São Paulo. However, information was circulating behind the scenes at MMA that the card could be transferred to the United States, due to the pandemic.
Thinking that José might have difficulty leaving Brazil in the event of a possible change of country for the card, Cejudo acted quickly and challenged the former division champion, Dominick Cruz, to replace Aldo, if the manauara could not, in fact, travel.
The change of opponent was not made official, since, on the eve of the UFC 249, which would take place this Saturday, the 18th, Ultimate ended up giving in to pressure and decided to suspend its activities indefinitely.
Henry became bantamweight champion in June last year, when he defeated Marlon moraes in the main fight of UFC 238. On that occasion, the athletes exchanged forces to fill the position that was left by TJ Dillashaw, who relinquished the belt after being caught in an anti-doping test at the beginning of 2019.
