The puzzle that became the realization of UFC 249, amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, is slowly beginning to take shape. With the event scheduled for April 18, the famous Ultimate announcer, Bruce Buffer confirmed that he can participate in the show, but made it clear that his presence will only be official in light of preventive measures adopted by the company.

“I assume that if there is an event announced – based on the location, the safety factor of everyone involved, the way we are going to be tested, whatever, everything that is obvious – if there is that agreement , a completely safe thing to do, so let's do it. Right? Obviously, there would be no audience. We know this,” Buffer said.

Even with the ideas coming together little by little, fans, athletes and some of the company's employees are left with their hands tied without knowing basic details such as the location chosen by the organization to hold the show. The card was initially supposed to take place in New York, but the state government ended up banning the promotion of public events as a preventive measure to minimize the risks of public contamination.

"I do not know anything. I'm a media mercenary. I always joke and say that my lifestyle is like James Bond (a movie character). I don't have to kill everyone, but when I get the call, I have to pack the suit. Jokes aside, I don't know, I mean, I could get a call five days before the event and have to make a decision. But am I willing to do this? For sure. You know me. I've done shows with one leg, I've done three shows in a row. You know I will never get tired of entering the octagon. But we have a larger context to consider. And the powers that be, I know Dana (White). I'm sure every day has been a new day for Dana with everything he's having to deal with. He’s trying to entertain people” concluded Bruce.

At the beginning of the week, sports fans ended up receiving a cold shower after Khabib Nurmagomedov announced that he would not be present on the card because he was unable to travel, due to the closure of borders in Russia. Two days later, however, the lightweight champion backtracked and stated that he could face Tony Ferguson.

The main fight, then, remains a great unknown for the show.
