It won't be this time that Edson Barboza will be seen donning the gloves of another organization. After asking to be released from Ultimate at the beginning of this week, the Brazilian had a confrontation scheduled for May 2, when he faces Josh Emmett, in one of the fights at UFC Oklahoma, in the United States. The information was released by 'Combate'.

In a bad phase in the organization, the Friborg native will make his debut in the featherweight division (up to 65,7kg). In recent years, the athlete had been playing at lightweight, where he was considered a candidate for a title fight. Barboza's recent record, however, has kept the fighter away from his dream of the belt.

The Brazilian, today, has four defeats in his last five appearances. The migration to the featherweight division appears as a possibility for the athlete to 'breathe easy' and continue as one of the company's biggest names.

Against Emmett, current number nine in the division reigned by Alexander Volkanovsky, Edson will be committed to interrupting the North American's winning streak that has lasted two appearances. Josh doesn't know what it's like to lose since his encounter with Jeremy Stephens, in February 2018.

On the May card, Barboza will reach the mark of 29 appearances in his career. The 34-year-old Brazilian currently has 20 triumphs and eight setbacks as a professional in MMA.

Emmett, 35, has 17 commitments, with 15 wins and two losses.
