Alex Cowboy defeats Max Griffin at UFC 248 and overcomes bad phase in the organization

Brazilian, who came from three consecutive defeats, has a balanced duel but is declared the winner in a split decision

End of fasting. Alex Cowboy won again after more than a year. In the confrontation against Max griffin held this Saturday (7), in Las Vegas (USA), the Brazilian is scared, but beats the North American in the unanimous decision of the judges.

Cowboy entered the octagon under pressure. The Brazilian had come from three consecutive defeats and needed a triumph to avoid the risk of being released by the company. Alex then entered the contest showing the same aggressiveness that made him famous in the organization. The Três Rios fighter's last positive result was in September 2018, when he beat Carlo Pedersoli in the UFC Sao Paulo.

For three rounds, the Brazilian and the North American got the crowd excited by promoting a tough and bloody confrontation. The setback marked the second setback for Max, who now has six defeats in nine appearances in Ultimate.

After confirming the victory, Alex asked to fight soon.

The fight

Max griffin He started the fight by attacking the Brazilian, who started walking backwards. The American threw a series of punches, which stopped in Alex's guard. Cowboy once again took the center of the octagon and acted on the counterattack looking for the best strike. Two minutes later, the Brazilian connected two jab and straight sequences that went into his opponent's face. Griffin responded with a straight shot to Alex's head and then took the fight to the ground. On the ground, the Brazilian tried to defend himself from the blows thrown by Max, but the North American continued to apply pressure. Cowboy managed to get up, but Griffin took the Brazilian down again, however, there was no more time.

In the second stage, Cowboy returned trying to recover from the disadvantage of the first round. The athlete threw a low kick and then a high one. Alex continued moving, trying to confuse his rival and mislead him. Griffin, however, remained focused. The Brazilian connected with a beautiful uppercut that opened a cut on the North American's eyebrow. The fight was interrupted so that doctors could assess the condition of the wound. Back, Alex landed good blows on his opponent's face again, but Max showed courage and continued to seek confrontation. Alex continued to land the best blows, but the American showed danger in his responses. The round ended with the athletes performing on the fences and without much action.

In the last round, Griffin took the initiative by delivering a straight shot that touched the Brazilian's face. Cowboy responded with a right cross and went into a grappling fight. After almost two minutes, Alex managed the takedown and landed in a favorable position. Cowboy got the mount and started landing good blows from top to bottom. Max managed to reverse the position and left the Brazilian on the bottom. Alex tried to defend himself, but the advantage belonged to the North American. Griffin was already showing signs of fatigue and was not successful in transitions.

Neil Magny managed to recover from the defeat suffered by Santiago Ponzinibbio. Without fighting for over a year, the North American performed confidently and defeated li jingliang in the unanimous decision of the judges.

Magny's feat interrupted a streak of three consecutive victories for the Chinese, who had come from a victory over Elizeu Capoeira in a fight held in August last year, at UFC Shenzhen.

Neil put on a dominant performance and prevented Li from executing his combat plan. There were few moments of tension for the North American, who hadn't won a fight since May 2018.

Beneil Dariush e Drakkar Klose were protagonists of one of the most exciting fights in the UFC 248. After almost achieving a submission in the first round, Dariush accepted the frank exchange against the American and surprised his rival with a cross that led to a knockout in the second round.

The victory confirmed the good phase in Beneil's career, who now has four wins in a row. The fighter's last negative result happened in March 2018, when he ended up being knocked out by Alexander Hernandez in one of the UFC 222 fights.

The defeat in UFC 248 interrupted Drakkar's good run. The North American had won three consecutive victories in the organization and had not suffered a setback since December 2017.
