“This fight is everything to me right now. If I make a mistake, I'm out. I can't give up. I'm focused. The UFC knows that I have great potential and I will show them that I am always evolving. I'm going to put on a show. And I can't let myself be shaken by certain things. In 2019, I let myself get upset, but this year, it will be different. I’m going to do my best, I can’t let the ball fall and this victory will be mine”, declared Cowboy.

Alex, who was once considered one of the most dangerous names in the welterweight division (under 77kg), is now looking to win again to regain his place among the category's elite. The athlete, however, explained that extra-octagon factors influenced his performances in his last appearances. Last year, the athlete appeared in police reports for an alleged attack on his partner.

“2019 was quite turbulent in my personal life and in my part of the fight. It's difficult for everyone to be a high-performance athlete and have several personal things happen in their lives. We end up feeling it, but we can't take it into the Octagon. This ends up happening, unintentionally, because we are human”, said Cowboy.

The Brazilian then commented on the controversial incident that occurred in May, when he was accused of domestic violence and ended up at the police station.

“I hope people understand that everything that happened in my personal life was not the way they talked about me. This shook me a lot. Many people judged me without knowing what happened. To this day, when people say that, I don't even like to talk about it, it hurts me a lot. Today, it’s okay, I’m married to my wife. Who doesn't have a fight between husband and wife? But that's not how people told it. A guy with a heavy hand is going to punch a woman, that's it, right? It wasn't that way. People described everything very wrong. I apologize for the people who don't know me very well, and for those people who judged me very wrong, pay more attention to the things they say before judging people” said the Brazilian.

Regarding this Saturday's fight, Alex showed that he is ready for the challenge of defeating Griffin. According to Cowboy, he and his team studied the North American and is ready to put on a 'show' for his fans.

“Griffin is an explosive guy, who goes forward, a guy who plays very open. I studied their breaches, as he studied mine, so, as he says he will exploit my gas, we are there. Let's go. Let him do his best and I will give my 100%”, he concluded.

The Brazilian has not won a fight since his triumph over Carlo Pedersoli in the UFC Sao Paulo, in September 2018.
