The hiatus in his career Dustin poirier may be coming to an end. Without fighting since he was defeated by Khabib Nurmagomedov In the fight to unify the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg), in September last year, the North American found it difficult to get a fight that could motivate him to return to the Octagon. Almost six months later, however, the search appears to have come to an end. After the good performance against Paul felder in the main fight of UFC Auckland, held last Saturday (22), Dan Hooker managed to catch the attention of the ‘Diamante’ and could reach an agreement with the former interim champion soon. The two teased each other on Twitter.

“Can you see me now, ‘Diamante’?”, wrote Hooker, referring to the fact that Poirier does not consider clashes with athletes who are not among the top five in their category.
It didn't take long for Dustin to use the same social network to respond. The former interim champion suggested that the two could have a confrontation in the main fight of an event that will take place later this year.
“I have 25 minutes for you,” Poirier replied.
Although the result of the confrontation between Felder and Dan was disputed by some fans and members of the specialized press, it is not wrong to say that the two promoted a real battle in last weekend's confrontation.
With the triumph, the New Zealander reached the mark of three consecutive victories and definitively moved closer to the category's elite. The positive result made Hooker jump two positions in the lightweight rankings, surpassing Donald Cerrone and remained in fifth place in the group led by Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Currently, Poirier is in second place, behind only the current title challenger, Tony Ferguson, who faces the champion on April 18, in the main fight of UFC 249, in New York.
