To get in the mood, the team at SUPER FIGHTS selected five reasons to follow the UFC 247.

1)Jones' hegemony

PUBLICITY:

Since debuting in MMA in 2008, Jon Jones He was already showing signs that he had the talent to make history in the sport. More than 10 years have passed and the North American managed to prove that he was not just another promise of the sport, but rather a name to be perpetuated.

Owner of unquestionable qualities in all areas of MMA, the fighter, over the years, has shown himself capable of facing renowned opponents and still remaining at the top of the light heavyweight division (up to 93kg).

With 27 fights as a professional, this weekend the American will have one of the most complicated tasks of his career, at least in theory. The champion will face a young talent in the sport, who is undefeated in his career in mixed martial arts.

PUBLICITY:

Undefeated for more than 10 years, Jones will be able to add another victory this Saturday and further consolidate himself as one of the best athletes in the history of the sport.

2) Dominick Ryes, undefeated talent

Since holding the light heavyweight title, Jon Jones It has been tested many times against dangerous opponents and has defeated them all. With triumphs over names like Lyoto Machida, Vitor belfort, Glover Teixeira, Alexander Gustafson, Mauritius Shogun, Thiago Marreta e Daniel Cormier, Jones ended up becoming a kind of living enigma, which everyone hopes to decipher to find out how to beat him.

This Saturday, it will be the turn of Dominick reyes put your plan to the test. Undefeated in his career, the 30-year-old athlete arrives to try to end Jon's hegemony and, to do so, puts his 12-fight unbeaten record on the line.

During the promotion of UFC 247, Reyes tried to provoke Jones by referring to extra-octagon problems that the champion experienced a few years ago. At the weekend, the challenger will see if the tactic had any effect.

3) Valentina, the rising queen

Former challenger for the bantamweight title (up to 61,2kg.), Valentina Shevchenko has definitely found its place since debuting in the flyweight division. Undefeated in the division, the Kyrgyzstanis has lined up opponents and shown herself to be superior to her rivals in all clashes played so far.

Holding the title since defeating Poland's Joanna Jędrzejczyk at UFC 231 in 2018, Shevchenko has proven that she deserves to hold a title from the organization.

So far, there have been two successful defenses and, this Saturday, the athlete will put the title on the line against Katlyn chookagian. The North American won the right to face Valentina after defeating the Brazilian Jennifer maia in one of the fights UFC 244. Now, the athlete has the chance to make history by defeating one of the biggest names in women's MMA today.

the card of UFC 247 will be played by two champions who, in theory, are superior to the challengers. However, the history of MMA has already provided fans with surprises that ended up marking an era in the sport.

Who doesn't remember the fateful defeat of Anderson Silva for Chris Weidman in 2013? At the time, considered by many to be the best in history, Silva entered the Octagon for yet another defense, but ended up suffering a tough defeat, which is remembered as one of the biggest upsets in the history of mixed martial arts.

Another legend of the sport has also had the moment of being ousted from the status of champion. In 2007, considered one of the great names for the future in MMA, Georges St Pierre had just become Ultimate champion by defeating Matt hugs, at UFC 65 (2006). Just under five months later, the Canadian ended up being surprised by Matt Serra with a devastating knockout that shocked the world of sport (St. Pierre would regain the title in December of that same year).

Brazil has not only had negative results when it comes to zebras. In November 2014, Fabricio Werdum won the interim heavyweight title, but would have to face one of the biggest names in the division, Cain Velazquez, to unify your belt.

The odds were working against the gaucho. The battle against Cain was confirmed in Mexico City and the Brazilian would have to face the former champion in front of an audience that would support the home athlete (since Velasquez is of Mexican descent). In the fight, Fabrício went through difficulties, but recovered and had one of the most epic moments in his history when he submitted his rival in the third round with a guillotine choke.

This Saturday, Katlyn and Reyes are far from being the favorites at the bookmakers. However, flyweights and light heavyweights may rely on history to believe that it is possible to beat the odds.

5) Only Brazilian on the card

As sole representative, Antonio Arroyo will take to the Octagon this weekend to take the Brazilian flag to the North American card. The athlete, who faces Trevin Guiles in the last fight of the preliminary card, is looking for his first victory for the organization.

Defeated on his debut by his compatriot Andre Muniz, the man from Pará needs to prove that he is ready to join the group of Ultimate athletes.

Against Giles, Arroyo will have a dangerous commitment, as his rival comes from two consecutive defeats and needs a positive result to not have the chance of being released by the organization.

One response to “Five reasons to watch UFC 247 with Jon Jones’ return and two title fights”

  1. Jon Jones' good life ended in this category, the veterans at the end of their careers from when he joined have retired, now there are only young, strong guys of his size and height, the hassle is over. He and Cris Waidman joined when there were old people at the end of their careers, but they had a lot of name and gained an audience, they swam with ease, now with the renewal that easy time is over. See that in the fight against Marreta (with injured knees) and Gustaffsson (1st fight), JJ depended on favorable scores from the judges to be able to win and was questioned a lot to this day.
